The Working Group on Securities Databases (WGSD), originally established in 1999, was reconvened in July 2007 in response to various international initiatives and recommendations to improve the global availability of information on securities markets. The core members of the WGSD are the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) (chair), the European Central Bank (ECB) (secretariat), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) .

Since 2009, the WGSD has been instrumental in driving the work on implementing a global data collection on comparable and harmonised securities statistics across the G20 and FSB member economies in the context of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI). As part of this work, the WGSD led the preparation of the Handbook on Securities Statistics during the DGI-1, which was published in 2015, and the implementation of a harmonised reporting of securities statistics by the G20 economies using common reporting templates during the DGI-2 in 2016-2021.

The current work of the WGSD focuses on coordinating the work of the DGI-3 Recommendation 4 Climate Finance Task Team on the implementation of new statistics on green debt securities and listed shares across the G20 and FSB member economies.
