World trend growth (PPP)
I was wondering if I could get some more detailed information on the IMF world trend line published in the WEO? As I understand it, the trend is simply calculated by finding the long-run average of each individual countries GDP growth then aggregating them together using time-varying PPP weights.
I would like to know over what period the long-run individual growth rates are calculated for (from 1980 – 2007, or do you use earlier data)? Also, if certain countries do not have complete data for the whole time period, are they simply excluded or do the IMF use whatever data are available? Also, is a similar trend calculated using GDP weights in US$?
