Financial Stability and Financial Sector Supervision: Lessons from the Past Decade and Way Forward

IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP), 21 COE-Market Quality Project of Keio University, and the Financial Research and Training Center (FRTC) of Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) hosted the conference on “Financial Stability and Financial Sector Supervision: Lessons from the Past Decade and Way Forward”, which took place in Tokyo, Japan on December 17, 2007.
The conference brought together a select group of senior officials from the Asia-Pacific region, IFIs, academics, private sector representatives and other stakeholders to review the progress in banking reform and financial sector supervision and examination over the last 10 years. Discussions focused on the readiness of financial systems in developing countries in the region to cope with ongoing changes in the global financial landscape, including through an effective implementation of the Basel II standards.
