Young Asian Officials Deepen Understanding of IMF Work at Summer Workshop

September 23, 2019, Tokyo  Young Asian officials studying a graduate program under the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) deepened their understanding of the IMF’s core work of surveillance and capacity building through lecturers, group discussions and presentations at the 2019 JISPA summer workshop. 

The workshop was offered for the second year students to improve their policy making skills to help solve challenges their countries face. This year, 26 scholars participated in the workshop, and learned about the formulation of the IMF’s global policy agenda, the integration of country needs with IMF’s capacity development activities and the IMF’s framework for the assessment of macroeconomic policies and risks.

JISPA is a specialized scholarship for young government officials of finance ministries and central banks from the Asia-Pacific region. Since its inception in 1993, more than 730 alumni graduated from the program and returned to their countries to help support sustainable economic development of their own countries and region.
