They rebounded strongly from the Pandemic and showed continued resilience in 2023 at the beginning of this year. Western Hemisphere Regional Economic Outlook: Securing Low Inflation and Nurturing Potential Growth

Following a strong rebound from the pandemic and continued resilience in early 2023, economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean is projected to moderate from 4.1 percent in 2022 to 2.3 percent in 2023. Headline inflation in the region (excluding Argentina and Venezuela) has been declining and is anticipated to reach 5 percent in 2023, compared to 7.8 percent in 2022.  click for more

At the end of the visit, Mr. Piris issued the following statement: “The IMF team noted the important steps that have been taken to bring down inflation and stabilize the economy, including significant fiscal and monetary tightening. This has put in place a critical foundation for success of the Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda, which aims to fulfill Ethiopia’s considerable economic potential. The mission made good progress in discussing how the IMF could support the authorities’ economic program. Discussions will continue in the coming weeks to reach an agreement on a set of reforms for the requested program.
