The IMF, jointly with the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Bank, disseminates data on external debt, which are obtained from national sources and from creditor and market sources. The data cover the external debt of developed, developing and transition countries and territories, and also include statistics on selected foreign assets. Although the data do not provide a completely comprehensive and consistent measure of total external debt for each country, they bring together the best international comparative data currently available in this area. The data tables show the stock of debt for the last 3 quarters and the previous December. Longer time series are available on the associated, free, online database. Methodological notes (metadata) available on the website explain the coverage, definitions and limitations of the data. The website also contains background information on the data series and their sources. To access this website: Joint External Debt Hub |
