The management of natural resources is an important function of government, and statistics are needed to support analysis of the macroeconomic impacts of natural resources and the formulation of an appropriate macroeconomic policy mix. Fluctuations in government revenues, exports, employment, and national income caused by changes in the output and prices of natural resources have major macroeconomic and fiscal implications.
