April 11, 2010

Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today on Greece:

“I welcome today’s statement on the financial support package that will be provided by Euro area member countries to Greece, when needed, to safeguard financial stability in the euro area as a whole. The agreement among euro area finance ministers, the European Commission and the ECB marks a very important step.

“The IMF stands ready to join the effort, including through a multi-year stand-by arrangement, to the extent needed and requested by the Greek authorities. An IMF team will hold discussions in Brussels on April 12 with the Greek authorities, the European Commission and the ECB.”
