ESTABLISHMENT AND FUNCTIONS
Preparatory meetings on the establishment of an
intergovernmental study group on lead and zinc were held
under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and
Social Council in London in September 1958, in Geneva in
November 1958, and in New York in May 1959. The first
meeting of the Group took place at the United Nations in
Geneva in January 1960.
The Group provides opportunities for
intergovernmental consultations on international trade in
lead and zinc and for studies on the world situation in
those commodities, having regard especially to providing
continuous accurate information on the supply and demand
position and its probable development. Financing is by
annual assessment, half of which is divided equally among
all members and half shared on the basis of trade
interest.
