Roberto ANDRADE LANGUAGES: English, SpanishESTABLISHMENT AND FUNCTIONSThe Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) is an international organization which represents institutions that finance development in Latin America and Caribbean. It was established on January 24, 1968 in Washington, DC at a meeting convened for that purpose by the Inter-American Development Bank (IaDB). The objectives of the Association are to promote cooperation among its members, to establish a flow of information between them, and to encourage studies on problems of common interest, in order to unite and strengthen its members and to stimulate them to contribute to the process of Latin American integration, thus rendering their individual and collective actions more effective. To attain its objectives, ALIDE ensures that its members benefit from the experience of others through the exchange of specialized staff and other means; appoints technical committees to study specific matters; disseminates systematically among its members information on the standards and practices of development institutions in Latin America and other regions; distributes information on procedures and facilities of national and international institutions regarding financing, development, technical assistance and personnel training; arranges agreements, programs and institutions to mobilize resources for Latin America, thus furthering financing, technical assistance, the incorporation of new technology and other activities in accordance with the Association's objectives; arranges for the exchange of information on investment projects in the region; promotes and sponsors sectoral, regional and subregional meetings and seminars. Its financial resources come from the collection of incorporation and annual fees from active, associate and collaborating members, complemented by donations and grants.COMPOSITION59 active members, 8 associate members and 7 collaborating member banks, finance institutions and international organizations of 22 Latin American and Caribbean countries (Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela), and 2 European countries (Slovenia, Spain). STRUCTUREThe General Assembly holds annual ordinary meetings which analyze a special topic and may also be called into extraordinary session. The General Assembly elects the Executive Board, consisting of a President and two Vice-Presidents, who, with four Directors, make up the Executive Committee; it also elects the Secretary General. The Advisory Council is comprised of ex-Presidents of ALIDE and a small number of persons invited by the Executive Committee as a result of their exceptional merits in supporting the Association and its objectives. There are technical committees on agricultural financing, foreign trade, fishing development, small and medium scale enterprise, housing and infrastructure, documentation and information, education and training, projects and investments, national legislation and informatics.
