Managing Director Transition
Rodrigo de Rato (at left), Managing Director of the IMF from June 2004 to October 31, 2007, announced in June 2007 that he would step down from the post following the 2007 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. After a process of selection over the summer, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a former French Finance Minister, was selected to replace him. Strauss-Kahn took up the post on November 1, 2007.

Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato launched a review in mid-2004 of the IMF's role, and presented a medium-term strategy to the IMF Annual Meetings in September 2005. In a later paper, Mr. de Rato made specific proposals for implementing this strategy.
