Public Consultation on the Guide for Staff Relations with Civil Society Organizations
Last Updated: July 28, 2017
The IMF is seeking your comments on the Guide for Staff Relations with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The online consultation process will be open for two months. We would welcome input by e-mail to IMFconsultation@imf.org no later than Friday, August 16, 2013.
Background
The current Guide for Staff Relations with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) was prepared in 2003 to provide guidance to IMF staff for effectively engaging with CSOs. The Guide is now being revised to reflect the evolving role of the IMF and of its engagement with CSOs over the past 10 years.
With this purpose, the IMF has hired an independent consultant, Dr. Bessma Momani, to assess how the Guide can be improved, to review similar guides prepared by comparable institutions and identify best practices, and to help us prepare a new version of the Guide. The consultant will also provide us with recommendations on how to conduct public consultations on policy issues early on in the process.
Since CSO input will be key in the revision of the Guide, the IMF is creating this online platform for all interested parties (civil society organizations, academia, think tanks, etc) to provide their comments. In addition, Dr. Momani is conducting a survey for those interested in providing additional feedback.
Process
The IMF Civil Society Team will receive the comments and, after the closing date, will post a summary of all the comments received on this page. Senders can request that their comments be kept private and not be posted. All interested stakeholders can submit their input through the following channels:
- E-mail: IMFconsultation@imf.org
- Fax: +1 202 623 6220
When submitting comments via fax or email, please include the following information so that comments are registered: name of sender, organization, address, country, phone number, and e-mail address.
Comments should be submitted no later than midnight (Washington DC time) on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Next Steps after Consultation
Upon completion of this first round of consultation and review of survey results, Dr. Momani will prepare a draft of the new Guide and present it to members of civil society at the 2013 IMF Annual Meetings in October in Washington D.C. The IMF plans to submit the final version of the new Guide to its Executive Board for their information in late 2013 and will publish it soon thereafter.
