Why do we need the IMF?
Smoothing the bumps in the flow of foreign exchange

Ask Other Countries for a Grant of Hard Currency

It sure looks like they have enough to share... You travel to Zedland and several other countries to meet with government officials and aid organizations. You ask them to give Yak hard currency to revitalize your industries. You argue that the other countries will benefit when you buy more of their goods and offer better, cheaper products for sale.

But because Yak has a history of poor economic policies, these governments and aid organizations don't think you can accomplish your goal. They turn you down and refuse to give you any hard currency.

How will you get the hard currency you need?

Buy it from other countries by increasing exports.
Try to borrow it from other countries. Work to convince foreign investors to put money into Yak's industries.
