Carlo Cottarelli, a citizen of Italy, has been Commissioner for Public Spending Reform since end-October 2013.   After receiving degrees in economics from the University of Siena and the London School of Economics, he joined the Research Department of the Bank of Italy where he worked from 1981 to 1987 in the Monetary and Financial Sector Division.

Akira Ariyoshi is a professor in the Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Ariyoshi served as the Director of the IMF’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific from October 2005 to April 2010. He was formerly the Deputy Director-General of International Bureau at the Ministry of Finance of Japan.

Ms. Maria Kiwanuka has been Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and an ex-officio Member of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda since 2011.   Prior to her current position, Ms. Kiwanuka worked at the World Bank as a financial analyst, economist, and financial consultant.

Mr. Lowcock began his career in DFID (formerly the Overseas Development Administration) in 1985. From 1992 to 1994, he was private secretary to Baroness Chalker, Minister for Overseas Development. From 1994 to 1997, he was deputy head and then head of the DFID Regional Office for Central Africa, based in Harare.

Mr. Portugal assumed the position of Executive President of the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN) in March 2011. Previously, he was Deputy Managing Director of the IMF from December 2006 to January 2011, where his many responsibilities included the Fund’s policies on technical assistance, as well as and relations with 81 member countries. Prior to joining the Fund, he served as Deputy Minister of Finance in his home country of Brazil from 2005 to 2006.

Dr. Atiur Rahman has been Governor of the Bangladesh’s central bank since 2009. A renowned economist, he has been a university professor, researcher, banker and a leader in the pro-poor, environment-friendly and gender-sensitive development paradigm.
