Russia is currently enjoying its first period of sustained growth since the transition, and financial markets have become increasingly bullish about its economic prospects. This recent optimism, however, should not obscure the fact that there are widely divergent views on the nature of Russia’s new found prosperity and whether it reflects fundamental changes in the economy that can translate into sustained growth. The following panelists will explore these issues and their potential impact on Russia’s economy:

John Odling-Smee (Moderator)
Former Director, European II Department
IMF

Anders Åslund
Senior Associate
Carnegie Endowment

Aleksei V. Mozhin
Executive Director for the Russian Federation
IMF

David Owen
Assistant Director, North Eastern Division
European Department
IMF
