Daniel Garcia-Maria is an economist in the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department. He has led the April 2024 IMF Fiscal Monitor chapter on fiscal policies for innovation and serves as the fiscal economist for China. Previously, he worked in the European Department, covering the United Kingdom, Italy, and the euro area, and in the Research Department. His research on macroeconomics has been published in top academic journals, including Econometrica and The Review of Financial Studies. He holds a PhD in economics from Stanford University and an MSc from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
