James John
Director of the Offices in EuropeBefore becoming Director of the IMF’s Offices in Europe and Senior Resident Representative to the European Union in December 2023, James John served most recently as Mission Chief for Georgia and as an Advisor to IMF Managing Directors Christine Lagarde and Kristalina Georgieva where he provided advice on a wide range of policy, country, and operational matters. Previously in the European Department, he was Deputy Division Chief for Advanced Economies where he focused on the euro area, Mission Chief for Slovakia, and Assistant to the Director. Also at the IMF, he has worked on Ireland and Latvia during their crises, Kenya, and Haiti, as well as on a range of policy issues while on staff and as an Advisor to the United States Executive Director. Prior to the Fund, Mr. John served as an economist at the U.S. Treasury and as a legislative assistant in the U.S. Congress. He holds degrees from Cornell University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
