Last Updated: June 21, 2007| Question: Can you describe in general terms the current situation of the Central Bank of Tanzania? |
| Answer:
MR. AHMED: As we understand it, the government of Tanzania, under the auspices of the comptroller and auditor general, has required that there be a special audit of the Bank of Tanzania's accounts, and this audit is going to be conducted by an international ISA-compliant firm that's selected through a competitive bidding process. The terms of reference for this audit have been discussed with the Fund staff, and the Fund staff fully support the authorities' response to the problems that have arisen in the Bank of Tanzania and the process that is underway.
