Guidelines for Requesting Grants from IMF's Civic Program

Deadline

Grant requests must be submitted by September 30, of each year.

Grant Decisions

Most donations are made by April, after the Civic Program Advisory Committee (CPAC) has reviewed grant applications and taken into account other Civic Program budgetary commitments.

Eligibility

Priority is given to supporting programs designed to enable persons to emerge permanently from poverty and crisis. Grants are normally given only to nonprofit organizations which are duly registered and that have established records of effective performance, reasonable administrative costs, and sound financial management (as reflected, for example, in recent audited financial statements), and that agree to report on their use of grants received from the IMF. Multiyear commitments cannot be made but organizations may reapply annually for grants.

Restrictions

Grants will not be given for capital projects such as construction or fundraising events, or to private individuals. Faith-based organizations that serve the poor are eligible to apply for grants provided that their services are open to all, without any religious qualification or conditions.

Guidelines for applicants in metropolitan Washington

All requests should follow the Common Grant Application Format of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers (WRAG)—see their website (www.washingtongrantmakers.org) for details and advice on preparing grant applications. Please follow the prescribed order of items in the application form. Organizations that have previously received IMF grants should also attach a report evaluating the use of the grant, using the WRAG Common Report Format. Applicants should provide e-mails and telephone numbers for three references. If no such person is available, they should provide the name of a donor organization from which they have received funds. Applications and attachments should be submitted by e-mail to communityrelations@imf.org. If they cannot be submitted in electronic form, mail one copy of each item to Civic Program Advisory Committee, Room HQ1-12-618, International Monetary Fund, 700 19th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20431.

Guidelines for International applicants

All requests should follow the Civic Program Advisory Committe (CPAC) International Grant Application. Applications and all attachments should be submitted together by e-mail to communityrelations@imf.org. If they cannot be submitted electronically, please mail in one envelope the application and all attachments to Civic Program Advisory Committee, Room HQ1-12-618, International Monetary Fund, 700 19th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20431.
